In July 2008 the Master Musicians of Joujouka celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Brian Jones recording the iconic LP "Brian Jones presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka" (Rolling Stones Records 1971) with a two day festival. The highlight of the festival was a performance in the same spot in the centre of the village which began 40 years to the hour after the performance that Brian Jones recorded on 29th July 1968. In attendence at the festival were Brians friends Anita Pallenberg and John Dunbar. the festival highlighted the authentic music, culture and traditions continued in the village to this day by the Sufi masters who live there. The highlight of the musical performance is the arrival of Boujeloud, a half goat, half man, figure likened to the ancient God Pan. This is the panic music written of by William S. Burroughs in his novels and non fiction writings. Children and relatives of the original musicians also attended in great numbers for this celebration of Brian Jones and the Master Musicians of Joujouka. Among those who particpated in the festival was Mallim Ali Abdelsalm El Attar who at 100 years of age is the oldest Master from that era in the village. he is the uncle of the current leader of the Master Musicians of Joujouka Ahmed el Attar.
